STEAM WORKSHOP DAY
STEAM Day, brings together all Drew students to dive deeper into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) with fun, interactive activities, experiments, performances and games.
Past STEAM Days
STEAM WORKSHOP DAY March 22 2024: Food For Thought
STEAM Workshop Day 2024's theme was: Food For Thought. STEAM Workshop Day 2024 took place across both campuses on Friday, March 22nd and revolved around the intersection of Food and STEAM. Students sliced in to the many aspects of what happens between farm and table. Packaging, Marketing and Cost Analysis were just some of the topics our workshops covered. Students learned all about what happens behind the scenes in the world of food, farming and factories. In collaboration with our guest presenters and workshop hosts, our students had the opportunity to cook up new ideas around how we grow, sell and market what we consume.

STEAM WORKSHOP DAY March 10, 2023: TRANSPORTATION
STEAM Workshop Day 2023 was centered around the theme “TRANSPORTATION.” STEAM Workshop Day 2023 was inspired by Afro-futuristic Transportation featured in Wakanda Forever. This year the event will highlight the ways in which the human body and objects move in the world (past, present, and future). We will be exploring the ways in which STEAM is used to improve our individual and shared experiences. In collaboration with our guest presenters and workshop hosts, our students will have the opportunity to fully realize their role in making the world and transportation better for present and future generations.

STEAM WORKSHOP DAY 2022: I AM SOME BODY
STEAM Workshop Day 2022 is centered around the theme “I AM SOME BODY.” STEAM Workshop Day 2022 will highlight the ways in which the human body informs and interprets the world around us. We will be exploring the ways in which STEAM is used to improve our individual and shared experiences. In collaboration with our guest presenters and workshop hosts, our students will have the opportunity to fully realize their role in making the world a better place for present and future generations.
STEAM WORKSHOP DAY 2021: Virtual Reality
The theme for STEAM Day 2021 is Virtual Reality! This year's event will focus on the different ways our future STEAM leaders build and shape our reality--either literally or figuratively. Drew Eagles will participate in challenges encouraging them to design a 3D Faberge inspired egg in TinkerCAD and create an Eagle Meme. Students at all academies will participate in a variety of events that encourage them to plan for their future using math, science, the arts, design, and tech resources.
Check out our presenters! We are hosting artists, planners, makers, engineers, musicians, and many others to help as they facilitate workshops for our students.

STEAM DAY 2019: Shelter
The theme for STEAM Day 2019 was Shelter! This year's event focused on the different ways our future STEAM leaders build and shape space--either literally or figuratively. Drew Eagles participated in challenges encouraging them build the tallest tower that could survive an earthquake and protect a real egg. Students at the Junior and Senior academy participated in a variety of events that encouraged them to create structures. Our students made connections from the arts to coding while learning and having a blast!

STEAM DAY 2018: Cause and Effect
The theme for STEAM Day 2018 was Cause and Effect! This year's event focused on the different ways our future STEAM leaders can affect change on their bodies, minds, environments and futures. At the EA, Drew Eagles participated in challenges encouraging them to them to use concepts of coding in creative and collaborative ways, built their very own engineering designs, learned about the cause and effect relationship of diet and exercise on their body and created their own art and engineering masterpieces. Students at the Junior and Senior academy were treated to a TEDy talk from former Drew Eagle, Andre Baron, who shared his journey through the movie industry. Our students made connections from the arts to coding while learning and having a blast!

What was STEAM Day 2017 like for our PreK through Grade 5 Drew Eagles? As one student put it, "AWESOME!"
Our future STEAM leaders navigated their way through a coding obstacle course in the gym and programmed robots to move on command. They soldered mini flashlights, constructed straw rockets and digitally illustrated their own stories. They raced Nerdy Derby cars, designed their dream playground and couldn’t believe their eyes during a science magic show. They danced, sang, invented, coded and made music. Most importantly, they learned and had fun doing it.

STEAM DAY 2017 AT THE JUNIOR + SENIOR ACADEMY
STEAM Day at the Junior + Senior Academy campus is all about making new, unexpected and mind-broadening connections between science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
Drew scholars in the upper grades experience STEAM Day through hands-on workshops and inspirational talks that cover a range of engaging topics—including game design, photography, communicable diseases, the cause and effect relationship of architecture, and the intersection of physics and music, to name a few. Students will have the opportunity to digitally compose their own music, explore the ever-popular STEAM Truck, make visual “comments” on the Yates building, work with a hip hop industry insider, enter virtual reality and much more, all while uncovering new possibilities in STEAM.
