THE PROJECTThird, tenth and eleventh grade Engineering + Design students at Drew had the opportunity to share their Little Free Libraries (LFL) project at the 2017 Atlanta Maker Fair. After studying the vital role literacy plays in predicting future success, students designed and built free book exchanges called Little Free Libraries to donate to neighborhoods where free book access is scarce.
Students identified “book deserts” within the perimeter in order to determine where to place their LFLs and presented their findings at the Maker Faire. Visitors to the Drew booth also had the chance to build an LFL with the students and to purchase a DIY library construction kit or a fully assembled library. |
