Fifth grade students studied American innovators from the turn of the century and evaluated the impact of the innovator’s innovation. Students showcased their learning by creating presentations and performance pieces. While students evaluated and analyzed innovations of the past they used the scientific and engineering design process to design innovations of their own.

Every fifth grader started a business from scratch and practiced essential entrepreneurship skills such as designing a viable business plan, meeting with potential investors and marketing to target audiences.

PBL SHOWCASE NIGHT EXHIBIT
5th Grade Marketplace | Visitors were invited to shop at each of the student-owned and operated businesses and to take a look at their business plans and marketing materials. These young entrepreneurs sold handmade products and services ranging from custom-designed travel mugs to popcorn to essential oils.

BUSINESS PLAN TEMPLATE
Fifth graders sculpted made-to-scale models of landforms such as waterfalls, volcanoes and glaciers, and produced stop-motion animations demonstrating how each landform was forged over time.
