Second grade students learned more about how influential leaders were able to create change through their choices and events, which has become a staple in their community. Students studied and learned more about former lawmakers and community leaders that have changed the East Lake Community. Students researched inspirational leaders and their many character traits that have helped them create changed like Eva Davis. Students were able to learn more about how they can play a vital role in their community every day and how each decision they make can exact some form of change.

Students were able to walk around the East Lake Community and take pictures of their surroundings. These pictures were able to help students see and understand more about their community and the different changes that have occurred over time. Students reflected and wrote about how they felt about these pictures and what they would change in the future.

Second grade students learned more about the different types of changes (humans, weather, plants, and animals) that can have long term effects and its impact on the environment and eventually the community overall. Students were able to use their resources and research to find different passion projects that could help resolve some of the problems caused by these changes. For their passion projects, students were able to create dioramas, PSAs, animal habitats, etc. to display that numerous solutions. Also, students collaborated with Sound Learning to create their very own songs that explains how people can become change-makers in their community and will be displayed during Showcase Night.

Students participated in the Whisper Room event, where students went to different classrooms and learned about the four types of change (humans, weather, plants, and animals) through various experiences. |
Final Products
Students created numerous final products that detailed the impact of changes that affects the environment. Using these products, students were able to inform the community about various solutions that can be used to help solve these problems over time.

Second grade students were able to learn more and apply their decision making skills using economic concepts. Students learned about the economic vocabulary such as, personal savings, scarcity, opportunity costs, lottery, first-come-first-served, and spending choices. Students were able to create their own arcade games to include: scarcity, opportunity costs, saving and spending, or push and pull. Students were able to make connections by participating in real life scenarios that teach the vocabulary and learned how to make responsible financial choices and how they can impact the future. Also, students used their engineering skills to update the Tinker Yard Pinball Machine.
Research and Development
Students played money-themed board games (Monopoly, The Game of Life, The Allowance Game, etc.).
